About Lambda Gamma

On January 15, 1976, on the campus of the University of Delaware, fifteen women came together to form W.I.A.K.A. - Women Interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha. On November 20, 1976, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Claire L. Carey and Mrs. Doris F. Smith of the Zeta Omega Chapter, those women became the University of Delaware's first Ivy Leaf Pledge Club and official pledges of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  On February 18, 1977, the Ivies officially became members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and received their charter the following day, February 19, 1977.
Since its charter date, the Lambda Gamma Chapter has continued to provide service to all mankind at the university, as well as in the Newark and Wilmington Communities through various programs and service initiatives.
